Acer has just released a laptop that’s possibly thinner than any other (or most other) laptop on the market. The Acer Swift 7 laptop is powered by Intel’s Core i5 7th generation processor and measures 9.98mm.
That’s pretty darn thin. Yes, this laptop is thinner than Apple’s MacBook. So what does a laptop that’s thin and comes with a new processor do for consumers?
Here’s a closer look at the Acer Swift 7 laptop - and why you may want it.
Outside It Shines
The Acer Swift 7 might be the thinnest laptop ever created, but Acer didn’t cut back on ports or space in order to make it this thin. The Swift 7 has all the ports you’d want in a laptop, and it also happens to have one of the biggest trackpads out there. Really, this trackpad spans across the whole bottom of the laptop so it’s not just a small square.
It comes with a 13.3-inch Full HD IPS panel that’s somewhat standard but there if you need it (and it does do the job just fine). The Swift 7 also had 356GB of SSD storage, 8 GB of RAM, and no fan. That’s right, zero fan. Acer put this laptop into an aluminum chassis and has it arranged just right so that the thin laptop doesn’t get overheated.
Acer has put the Swift 7 inside an aluminum chassis, as stated above, and inside it is a gold color. I’m not sure how I feel about the gold area but if you like the contrast of gold and silver this might work for you. With the large black trackpad the inside of the Swift 7 looks somewhat flashy and does stand out. I’m guessing that was Acer’s point in making it all gold.
This laptop also has a spin display which might be useful if you like to turn your screen around. I’m not really into those bells and whistles but this laptop is thin enough to spin the screen without it being awkward. It also comes with a touchscreen that’s handy if you’re into touchscreen laptops.
Acer isn’t rolling this one out in the US right away. This thin laptop first goes to China, and then Europe, and then it comes to the United States. As far as the price goes, Acer’s laptops have always been affordable and this is no exception. The new Swift 7 will retail for $999 in the United States.
The burning question now then is: should you buy this laptop when it comes out? And how does it compare to other laptops? Really the Acer Swift 7 is a stylish laptop that you’ll love if you want a laptop that you can tote around with you easily and simply. Since its thin, the Swift 7 doesn’t take a lot to carry. So it's ideal for anyone looking for a laptop that’s really portable.
The thing is, though, that this laptop is about flash. So if you’re not looking for something flashy this might not be it for you. If you do like the flash, this may be exactly what you’re looking for - and the fact that it’s super thin is kind of great too.
