The Asus Transformer Prime originally caught my eye because of the name of this device – Transformer Prime, really? Later, I learned that I wasn’t the only one questioning Asus’ tablet name choice. Today, the news that Hasbro is suing Asus over the name “Transformer Prime” got out. It’s safe to say that Hasbro will probably win this battle (if you’re wondering what I’m talking about, go rent Transformers). Names aside, the Transformer Prime hasn’t received a lot of press.
This is a strange occurrence, since everything tablet related (any kind of tablet, really) tends to receive the majority of press these days. What is the Transformer Prime and why would a person buy one? If you are in the market for a tablet, you might want to turn your eyes towards Asus. Even though the brand is somewhat unknown, this company is trying its best to break into the tablet market.
Transformer Prime Specs
If you look at Asus’ website, you might think that the Transformer Prime is a laptop and not a tablet. Asus has chosen to display this tablet with the optional keyboard base attached to it. If you do not buy the keyboard base, what you’ll get is a very thin tablet (Asus claims that it’s the thinnest tablet on the market) equipped with Tegra 3. In fact, this is the first table to run on the Tegra 3 processor.
This tablet also comes with two cameras (rear and front), Gorilla glass, a very long last battery (maybe the longest lasting tablet battery on the market?), and 1080p video capture abilities. All of this is wrapped in a sleek and thin metal package that really is quite nice to look at. Thus far, the Transformer Prime reviews have been quite positive too. Many reviewers even claim that this is the best Android tablet out there, and it’s proving to be an excellent choice for kids as well as adults. While the price tag is somewhat steep ($499), buying an Asus Transformer Prime is a good purchase.
Additional Publicity
Apple still dominates the tablet market, even though the Transformer Prime is a good tablet to choose. In fact, it’s hard for other tablet manufacturers to convince the general public that buying a tablet that’s not an iPad is still a good thing to do. So, what’s a company like Asus to do? Well, if Asus had a great marketing team (and it might), this device manufacturer could stir up a publicity storm by naming the device something that’s bound to draw attention. Then again, Asus probably didn’t need that lawsuit from Hasbro.
Still, Asus’ Transformer Prime is back in the news today because of this legal scandal. This may, in turn, cause some people to look up the Prime in order to see what this tablet is all about. If you’re one of those people, take the time to play with the Prime (soon to be renamed, I’m sure) in-store. You’ll quickly see that Apple isn’t the only game in town when it comes to delivering awesome tablets.
