GameFly has been in beta mode for months. Today, GameFly goes public. GameFly is a website that lists over 8,000 console and handheld games in addition to 1500 Mac and PC games. These games can be bought, rented, or pre-loaded right from the GameFly site. Almost any game that you can think of is available through GameFly, which is why this site is sure to explode.

If you love games, you’ll want to check out what GameFly has to offer. This site even includes free games that are downloadable at no extra charge. Ready to exercise your gaming muscles? Here’s the GameFly scoop.

Rent, Mail, Play: How GameFly Works

GameFly members pay one flat monthly fee of $22.95 (plus tax). This membership fee will allow you to rent two games per month. For $15.95 per month, you can rent one game per month. How do rentals work? When you rent a game from GameFly, that game is then shipped to your home. Once you receive a game, you can keep that game for as long as you want to – no late fees or deadlines. Then, when you’re ready, simply return the game to GameFly using pre-paid postage.

It is also possible to build a list of games that you’d like to rent using the My GameQ feature. Add as many games as you like to your GameQ, and GameFly will keep sending you games that are part of your list as you return games that you’ve rented. The cycle is continuous as long as you keep returning games. With GameQ, you don’t have to sign up for a new game, just make sure to keep adding games to your GameQ list. GameFly is setting up shipping centers across the United States, so it shouldn’t take too long to get a new game. Right now, GameFly is not available outside of the United States. Want to keep a game that you’ve rented? You can do that too. Just log into your GameFly account and click the “purchase” button.

Members Get Free Stuff

It pays to be a GameFly member, if you really play a lot of games. Members have access to thousands of PC game titles for free. So, while you’re waiting for the next game on your GameQ list, you can download plenty of fun titles from the GameFly site. Members also receive access to the GameFly community. This online gaming community setup is great when you want to ask a gaming question or find out if a game is worth renting. Additionally, members will receive plenty of new game news, update information, and other gaming notes via email.

Is GameFly Worth It?

The math here is simple enough. Renting the average video game from a rental store costs around $5. If you rent more than three games per month, the $15.95 membership is worth the price. If you play more than five games per month, the $22.95 deal is definitely cheaper. On the other hand, if you only play one game every three months, it may not be worth it to purchase a GameFly membership. Don’t forget, though, that members also have access to thousands of free PC and Mac games, so keep this in mind if you enjoy these types of games in addition to console gaming. GameFly is up, running, and available to the public today.
