The New Kindle Fire HD 6

Rumour has it that Amazon asked its developers to create a tablet that could be sold for less than $100, but was also better than any other tablets on the market. The developers answered the call, and Amazon’s newest Kindle Fire HD is now available for pre-order at $99. But, is this tablet better than anything else available? Let’s take a closer look to find out.

Inside the Kindle Fire HD 6

This tablet comes with a 1280x800 full HD screen (as the name suggests), and measures just six inches diagonally (as the name also suggests). So, this is no doubt a compact tablet. You will also get 8GB of memory with the Fire HD 6. If you want to upgrade to a 16GB version, you can do so if you want to spend $199 for the upgrade.

As far as the processor goes, this is what Amazon reps tried to sell the most to those attending the closed release event this week. The HD 6 comes with a MediaTek 1.5 GHz processor, which Amazon compared to the Samsung Tab 4 processor claiming that the HD 6 is three times faster than that tablet. In addition to all of these additions, the Kindle Fire HD 6 comes with a front and rear facing camera,

Battery Life and Other Details

Amazon claims that the HD 6 will get up to eight hours of battery life, which is roughly the same amount of time that the old Fire HD got. The HD 6 is made from Gorilla Glass, and reviewers have stated that this tablet does feel rather sturdy, but do keep in mind that Amazon made the HD 6 in order to compete with other budget tablets, so don’t expect the most luxurious tablet on the market.

You are still going to have to use Fire OS if you buy this tablet, though, and that means accessing Amazon’s personal list of Android-like apps. You don’t have direct access to Google Play with the Fire tablets, so do keep that in mind as well. It’s also worth noting that the reason why the Fire Phone struck out was due to the lack of apps, and you’ll face the same issue with the new Fire tablet (something to consider for sure).

Availability

Amazon wants you to pick up a FIre HD 6 tablet for the holiday season, and that’s why the tablet is now available for pre-order. If you want to wait until it comes out, you’re look at an October official launch date. The Fire HD 6 also comes in many different colors, so that’s a bonus of some kind. So, who’s this tablet for?

It’s clear that Amazon is targeting a budget crowd with the Fire HD 6 tablet. This tablet might also be a really good option for any parent wanting to purchase a tablet for kids, but not wanting to spend a lot of money on a tablet that could easily be broken. It’s also worth noting that Amazon has launched a Fire Kids Edition tablet, so you could take a look at that tablet as well to see if it’s a better fit for your kids.
