If you’re reading this while sipping a coffee (any kind), you have a problem. Don’t worry, though, most people have the same problem. And, even better, there’s an app for that. The app is called ‘Up Coffee’ by Jawbone. Here’s more…
What ‘Up Coffee’ Does
The CDC (Center for Disease Control) recently reported that 35% of adults get less than the prescribed 8 hours of sleep per night. Jawbone thinks that this lack of sleep has to do with all the caffeine that adults consume throughout the day. The ‘Up Coffee’ app tracks every ounce of coffee you ingest daily, and lets you know just how long it will take for that caffeine to leave your system.
How the App Works
On the front of the ‘Up Coffee’ app screen, you will see a small beaker that’s empty at first. But, start adding all of the foods that you consume each day (from a massive library of foods), and that beaker will fill up. Some foods only have small amounts of caffeine, but a quad latte (for example) will cause the beaker to shoot up. From there, the app will let you know how long it will take for all of that caffeine to leave your body. Surprisingly, it takes many hours for a small amount of caffeine to exit your system.
After the amount of caffeine that you have consumed has been calculated, the app will then let you know when you can go to bed and sleep soundly. If you think that the afternoon coffee you had doesn’t matter much, you’ll be shocked to know that you may not be able to get any real sleep for hours after that last sip. In short, caffeine is keeping you awake, and Jawbone wants to help out. But, that’s not all that this app will do.
Further Integration
If you have the ‘Up’ band (around $90), the ‘Up Coffee’ app can integrate with the information already recorded by the band. The idea is to give users a complete health picture ranging from sleep to caffeine consumption. Jawbone’s ‘Up’ reports are completely customized to each user, and this is what sets this fitness band apart from the rest. Plus, most people that drink coffee all day long will be curious to see just how the stuff impacts sleep.
While most of us don’t give a second thought to caffeine consumption, it’s actually one of the main reasons why we may not be getting enough sleep. Or, maybe the amount of caffeine you consume is just fine. Either way, Jawbone’s new ‘Up Coffee’ app will let you know just where you stand when it comes to caffeine and the way that you sleep. The app will integrate with the rest of Jawbone’s Up Band information in a few weeks, and the Up Coffee app is available via iOS in the United States right now.
