If you're close to graduation, the summer ahead of you might seem like the most important thing right now. But, you'll soon have to join the workforce and put that degree to good use. The bad news is that there are fewer jobs now than there were when you started school. The good news is that there's a site called LaunchPad that aims to help you find a good job in your field.
LaunchPad isn't a job search site. It's a site that connects graduates like you with mentors, industry leaders, and people who can really help you out. If you don't already have an advisor or someone that can help you in the real world, LaunchPad might be just the thing that you need to get your foot in any business door.
How LaunchPad Works
LaunchPad is bursting with professionals of all kinds. Many of the professional mentors that are part of this group come from the Ivy League world. Others work for Fortune 500 companies and know their stuff inside and out. If your'e a job seeker, you can work with any of these professionals to better your chances when it comes to landing the job of your dreams. How can they help?
LaunchPad's professionals can look at your resume to let you know what you're lacking. They can also go over any questions you might have with you, and they can help you with any concerns you might have. If you need advice or want to know where to look for a job, LaunchPad professionals can help you there too. Really, this is a mentoring site for recent graduates just like you.
How Matches Are Made
One you submit a request to LaunchPad asking to meet with an advisor, a LaunchPad rep will personally connect you with the right person. From there, you will have a set meeting time that will last for thirty minutes. During that time, you can ask any questions you want, virtually. There is a slight catch though.
You will have to pay $10 to meet with that industry professional for 30 minutes. This is a special beta price that won't last for long. The founders of LaunchPad want to jack that price up to $25 for 30 minutes in the near future, so set up that meeting as fast as you can. What if you're an industry professional seeking to mentor new graduates?
How Professionals Can Get Involved
If you think that you have the stuff to become a LaunchPad mentor, you can sign up to become an advisor on the LaunchPad site. You will then be notified as to whether or not you have passed the LaunchPad test. If you pass, a portion of those meeting fees will be given to you, or you can donate the money to a charity of your choice. You'll also have the bragging rights that come along with being an expert and a mentor.
LaunchPad might not set you up directly with a job in your field, but the advice you can gain from a mentor will be invaluable. Give it a try today!
