The Radiohead App: Mysterious and Curious

Radiohead originally developed the band’s tablet and smartphone app as a part of the 2011 launch of the album “The King of Limbs.” But, the band has just done something curious to the app - its updated the app with new sounds and visuals, which means that PaulyFauna (the name of the app) will likely be more than just part of an old album release.

Songs and All

The newly updated app now has new songs and vocals that have been uploaded by the band member Thom Yorke. The band hasn’t said what else the app will do, but if you have the app you can check it out today to see what’s new.

Here’s what you can expect to find:

Interesting images that border on the spooky side
Strange expressionless images that float by
New music that is a perfect fit for the haunting images
Updates from band members and possibly new music at times

The band has been playing around with the app since the beginning of August, but the new sounds that were added are the first from the band in a long time. Understanding the purpose of the app is somewhat difficult to do, though, since Radiohead has only stated that the app was meant to be an “immersive, expansive world of primitive life, weather, sunsets, mountains and forests” in addition to being inspired by “early computer life-experiments and the imagined creatures of our subconscious.”

Yeah, I’m right there with you in thinking that this sounds a bit over the top, but it’s an app that’s already getting a lot of attention this morning.

A Return to Music

For the past few years, Radiohead has been largely split up with band members all doing different things. But, the band has told press this morning that they are going to come back together to play music, and to “see how it’s sounding” starting in September. What this could mean is Radiohead fans will be hearing music from the band later this year or possibly next year, and you can check out some new sounds through the Poly Fauna app right now.

Radiohead has been around since 1985, though the band’s music is still iconic to listeners both young and old. The PolyFauna app is available on Android at the moment, and it has just been updated with those new sounds from Yorke - so make sure to check out the app if you are a fan. If you want to stay closer to the action, follow Thom Yorke on Twitter for news, strange images, and curious updates.

It has been a while since Radiohead put anything new out, but fans are eagerly anticipating the launch of some new sounds that may just happen via app before anything else. If you have had a chance to listen to the new sounds, what do you think? I’m hoping that the band’s reunion is a successful one in September! Stay tuned for more details.
