Way back in the day, there was a PC game called "Where In the World is Carmen Sandiego." I used to pop that floppy disk into my PC to see where Carmen was almost every day. Well, floppy disks are long gone (and Carmen has gone online), but a lot of people still like to play travel guessing games.
GeoGuessr is kind of like Carmen Sandiego, kind of. This game drops users somewhere in the world, and players have to figure out where they are based on clues. Your virtual self can walk around the area that you're dropped in, visit streets and people, and try to guess where you are using Google Maps. This game is a lot of fun to play, and I'm guessing that many of you will get hours of enjoyment out of it.
Playing the Game
You will have just five chances to try and guess where in the world you are. Your score increases as your guesses become closer to your actual location. If you guess wrong each time, your game will end. Most of the time, it's not too difficult to figure out where in the world you've landed. But, sometimes, there are no real landmarks or clues to be seen.
You could potentially spend hours wandering around, looking for clues, and zooming in and out of Google Maps in order to figure out where you've been dropped. Aside from helping players out with geography, GeoGuessr is a lot of fun to play. This game is also relatively new, so it's just being discovered.
Where to Find GeoGuessr
GeoGuessr can be found here. To play, simply log into the game and get started. The whole setup process takes just a few minutes to complete, and you will be on your way shortly after signing up. If you like geography, traveling, and games that are reminiscent of Carmen Sandiego, you will love what you'll come across when you play GeoGuessr.
There's not much to report as far as the developers behind this game go, though. It would be nice to learn more about the developers of such a fun game, but no such luck at the moment. This game is highly additive too, so make sure that you come up for air once in awhile. Not into travel games? This isn't the one for you! Love to travel but don't have the budget? Why not travel virtually! There's a learning component to this game as well.
