  • Three New Tablets from Lenovo: The Scoop
Technology Articles > Gadgets > Tablets > Three New Tablets from Lenovo: The Scoop

Tablets are the talk of tech town these days. Apple is expected to launch a new iPad Mini soon. It’s also hard to ignore the Windows 8 tablet hype. Amidst all the tablet talk, though, is Lenovo. The quiet company that continues to make affordable tablets has just released three new options. The Lenovo IdeaTab A2109, A2107, and S2110 have just been announced. These tablets follow Lenovo’s former IdeaTab S2109, which wasn’t much to write home about. Will Lenovo’s new offerings prove to be different?

Inside Lenovo’s New Tablets

Let’s start with the A2109. Lenovo has been somewhat covert about what this tablet will include. What is known so far is that the A2109 will have a 9-inch screen; 1.2GHz quad-core Tegra 3 processor; 16 GB of storage; both front and rear cameras; and a mini HDMI. These components will put the A2109 right in line with some of the best-selling Android tablets out there. Even though these details are not mind-blowing, they are competitive, as is the Lenovo’s pricing. You can get your hands on an AS109 for as little as $299.

Next up is the A2107 tablet. This tablet is smaller than the AS109 with a 7-inch screen. Inside the AS107 from Lenovo is 16 GB of storage; microSD slot; and a MTK Core A9 processor. Would you like to know the price of this tablet? Me too. Right now, though, Lenovo isn’t releasing any pricing details. It is fair to assume, however, that Lenovo will have to price the A2107 competitively considering it is in direct competition with Google’s Nexus 7.

Lastly, the Lenovo S2110. This tablet will have a 10.1-inch screen; 32 GB of storage; and a 1.5-GHz Qualcomm 8060A processor. This Lenovo tablet also comes with an optional keyboard dock. If you purchase the dock, you will also receive a SD card reader, USB ports, and extra long battery life. The tablet plus dock will cost $499. Just the tablet, sans dock, will retail for $399.

OS and Other Details

You will find Android 4.0 is the OS of choice when it comes to Lenovo’s new tablets. As far as a ship date goes, Lenovo still has not told press when the S2107 will be officially launched. The S2110 and A2109 will be sent to a store shelf near you this coming fall. There’s no doubt that Lenovo is gunning for the competition (namely Asus and Google) with these three tablet additions. Will Lenovo succeed? Lenovo’s last tablet (the S2109) didn’t receive rave reviews and wasn’t widely purchased. It also pays to remember that Lenovo is launching its new tablet at a time when the Apple iPad Mini will soon appear and Windows 8 is all the rage.

It will be interesting to see whether Lenovo succeeds or fails with these new tablets. For the average consumer looking to purchase a tablet that’s affordable, Lenovo’s lineup might seem appealing. This reviewer, however, cautions you to wait and see what Apple’s iPad Mini will be priced at. Right now, rumors suggest that Apple’s upcoming tablet will be priced around $299 - $300. This might seem like a lot of coin, but the iPad Mini will likely be packed to the brim with features and components that are tough to pass up. Lots of new tablets will be hitting the market this fall in order to get onto holiday shopping lists. If you’re looking for a new tablet, don’t count Lenovo out. But, don’t jump on the Lenovo bandwagon quite yet either.
