Recession or no recession, people are always looking for ways to save money. A great way to do this, is by reducing fixed expenses, such as bills. There's always a good reason to save money on bills, whether it be loss of income or a new fancy toy, such as the iPhone that you want to make room in your budget for.

In case you haven't heard, many TV networks have begun to stream most of their shows recent episodes. MTV, Comedy Central, Fox, CBS, NBC, and ESPN provide many of their recent episodes free to stream on their websites, and/or on services such as Hulu. This can be quite a relief for people struggling to pay expensive cable bills because they just can't miss the next episode of Jersey Shore. The computer screen works fine for watching shows alone, but it can get a little cramped sharing a laptop screen with the whole family.

PlayOn is a service that connects streaming videos on your computer to a game console or mobile phone. Once PlayOn is installed on your computer, it can wirelessly connect to a Wii, Xbox 360, or Playstation 3. You can use the console's remote to connect to any of the streaming services available, including Hulu, MTV, CBS, and even Netflix, if you already have an account with them. The episodes will stream on any TV connected to the console. PlayOn can also send episodes to your mobile device, so you can catch up on the latest TV shows on the go.

Big Savings On Cable Costs

PlayOn offers a free 14 day trial for skeptical customers to test out the product. The trial period is ideal for people who want to make sure the software is compatible with their entertainment systems. It also allows customers a period of time to see if this service can adequately replace their cable service. Not all shows and networks are available with this service, but for most people who complain that there's never anything of quality to watch on cable, PlayOn is ideal. You no longer have to pay for 1400 channels that you'll never use, in order to enjoy TV.

There are three different payment options once the free trail is used up. A monthly payment of $4.99 is good for people who are still not comfortable forking over any substantial amount of money before trying the product a little longer. There is also an annual payment of $39.99 available for the first year, and a reduced $19.99 annual payment for additional years. The biggest savings is available with a one-time payment of $79.99, that is valid for the life of the product. A price close to what many people pay monthly for cable, offers a lifetime of streaming episodes.

Minimum Requirements

PlayOn only runs on Microsoft Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7. Mac users can still enjoy the benefits of PlayOn, but they must be running Windows on their Mac in order to use the program. This can be done by using the Parallels program, which allows Windows and Mac to run on the computer simultaneously, or by loading Windows on the Mac computer. A google search can provide details on how to best run Windows on a Mac computer. At least 1 GB of RAM is recommended for best quality streaming, but it will run with a minimum of 512 MB of RAM.
