Sony’s Vaio series has long been the colorful candy-like laptops to beat. Design-wise, these laptops are intelligent and easy to use. System-wise, Sony presents an all-around laptop that can handle a fair amount of abuse. While not a gamers laptop by any means, the Vaio is an appealing alternative to other laptops in its class.

Recently, Sony unveiled its newest line of Vaio laptops: the Vaio E and C series. In true Sony style, these laptops are covered in an array of great colors. Underneath those pretty shells, the new Vaio series is all that Sony fans have come to expect.

The C Series

The new C series features Intel Core i3 and i5 CPUs (as is the case with the E series), a 14 or 15.5-inch screen, and a number of great colors. If you happen to have a Sony television, the C series is compatible with your TV. As in Sony laptops past, it is possible to send an image straight from your Vaio screen to your television. This is a handy feature, to say the least.

The C series is solely considered a mid-sized laptop. If you’re looking for an inexpensive laptop that comes in just under 15.5-inches, the C series is worth looking at. If this screen size is too small for your needs, you may want to turn your attention to the E series.

The E Series

Sony’s E series ranges from 14-inches to 17.3-inches – a large leap over the C series. The idea is to use the 17.3-inch variety as a desktop replacement. The E series does replace most desktops rather well, though the 17.3-inch screen only comes in black or white.

If you opt for the smaller of the two E series options, you can purchase the 14-inch screen in blush pink, midnight blue, charcoal black, and glacier white. Why are there more color options for the smaller Vaio screen? Only Sony can answer this question. Presumably, users who wish to replace a desktop system with a laptop prefer the conservative look of black or white.

Pricing and Availability

Sony has announced that the C series Vaio will be priced around $730, while the E series will come with a sticker price of $550. Those who enjoy all that Sony has done with past Vaio systems are bound to appreciate all of the work that has gone into the new E and C series.

If you want to get your hands on a new Sony, you won’t have to wait long. The E and C series will be available on June 19, 2011. At the time of this writing, that’s just a mere four days away. Presumably, you will be able to purchase your new Vaio at any mega electronics store. If you want one of those great Sony colors, you may have to buy your Vaio from the Sony Store.

The layout of the new E and C series will be roughly the same, though one has to wonder whether or not Sony has fixed its mouse issue. Previous Vaio laptops frustrated those who used their systems regularly due to a worn mouse. If used often enough, the Vaio mouse would lose its tracking causing a smooth and slipper surface. Let’s hope that Sony has fixed this issue.
