When you think of smartwatches, your mind probably (presumably) goes immediately to something like the Apple Watch, right? Well, that’s about to change. Luxury watchmakers are getting into the smartwatch market starting with TAG Heuer.
The TAG Heuer Smartwatch
Technically, the new TAG Heuer smartwatch is called the ‘Connected Carrera’ (a name I’m not totally on board with, but whatever), and it’s an Android smartwatch. The main selling point of this smartwatch is that it doesn’t look like one - it looks like a high-end TAG, which is what people that will shell out $1500 USD want. But what can the Carrera do?
If you’re going to spend $1500 on a TAG that’s a smartwatch too, you probably want it to do amazing things, right? To start, this watch is water-resistant, scratch-resistant, and made from Grade 2 titanium - it also has a 46 diameter chronograph face (as most TAGs do). But what can it really do? How is this watch going to change your life or make it “smarter”?
Inside the Carrera
TAG has added an Intel Atom Z34XX processor, built-in Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 4GB of internal storage to the Carrera. The watch can also do things like count your steps (for you My Fitness Pal fans), and it does work with Android phones running 4.3 or higher and iPhones running iOS 8.2 and higher. One of the biggest issues with any smartwatch is that they tend to die quickly, but TAG assures the public that this one can last an entire day.
While all of these things are great (and the fact that you can buy a TAG that’s also a smartwatch is a big sell for many consumers), the best thing about the new TAG smartwatch is the warranty that comes with it.
TAG is offering a two-year warranty that includes an interesting replacement deal - if you want to replace the Carrera, the company will switch it for one of its mechanical watches. So, if you don’t like the smartwatch at some point, TAG can change it for you. Now, that’s a good deal!
Swiss or Not?
The biggest reason why people will spend more than $1000 on a watch like a TAG is because TAGs are supposed to be Swiss made. But, this TAG comes with some parts (computer parts, of course) that aren’t Swiss made. So, it’s had to say how well the watch will perform or whether or not it’s a good investment - TAG watches (along with other luxury brands) are typically good and solid investments because they can be passed down to future generations.
If you keep in mind that this isn’t a 100% Swiss made watch, you can’t go wrong when buying this one. Plus, the new Carrera comes in various colors, which makes it all more fun (these have a class TAG rubber band as well). If you love the idea of a TAG smartwatch and you can shell out more than $1000 on a watch, you can pick up the new TAG Carrera right now from the TAG website - or from any retailer that sells TAG watches.
