If you’ve ever been on an all-inclusive island vacation, you know just how expensive those excursion tours can be. The same goes for touring any one of the biggest cities in the world. Sure, there are tour officers offering lots of different tours, but unless you can fork over more than $80 per person for a few hours, you won’t be jumping on any tour buses. Not only are organized tours expensive, but they also tend to be centered around visits that aren’t really your cup of tea. That’s where Vayable comes into play.

This amazingly innovative site (that I hope lasts!) offers travelers tours of a different kind.
Instead of choosing from, for example, three New York City tours offered by your travel company, Vayable lets you tour the city with people who actually live there. You can, for instance, book a travel tour with a food blogger who lives in NYC, and visit all of the city’s excellent food carts for around $30 per person for four hours. Tours like these (fashion, fun, architectural, historical…) are offered through Vayable and Vayable tour guides for cities and destinations all over the world.

How Vayable Works

When you visit the Vayable website (currently in beta), you will see a few cities listed. Keep in mind that this site is in beta, so a lot of destinations haven’t been added yet, but you can always become a tour guide (more on this later!). Selecting one of those cities will bring you to a page filled with different tours. After selecting a tour (I chose the Pizza Bus Tour), you will see everything that’s included in the tour. With the Scott’s Pizza Bus Tour, you get a pizza at every stop, a knowledgeable tour guide, a history of the pizza joints you visit, and travel all for $60 per person.

You can easily book the tour by clicking the “book it” button. From there, you can set up payment (secure), time and date information. Your tour guide will contact you with all the additional details that you need. There are many different tours already on the Vayable website – including shopping, photography, food, and many other tours. Want to visit all the best chocolate shops in Paris? Book a tour! As you can tell, I’m very enthusiastic about this tour site – after all, you get to choose exactly what you want to do while you are on vacation, that’s unbeatable!

Get Involved

If you think you have what it takes to be a tour guide, you can set up a tour of your own city. All you have to do is figure out the logistics of the tour you will be offering (what will be involved and how will you transport people?), sign up to be a tour guide, gain approval from the site, and see where it goes. After a few reviews from travelers, your tour will be the talk of the town…and that extra pocket cash isn’t too shabby either.

Another way you can support this site is to simply book tours. The more tours that are booked through the site, the better chance Vayable has of succeeding. This is one website that’s definitely worth investing your vacation money in, and the whole set up and booking process is simple. If you really want to hit the streets of that city you love of find out what you’re missing by looking at standard tour guides, Vayable is one site that you don’t want to miss out on.
