Christmas comes in September for the tech world. After working on new devices throughout the summer months, manufacturers are ready to unveil all new products to the consumer market. This September already marked the launch of new Amazon e-readers. But, there are many more devices to look forward to on the horizon. Today, Apple is announcing its new iPhone and other iOS devices (more below), and various other companies are following suit. Here’s some device news that’s already been released in addition to upcoming (just in case you want to start your holiday shopping a few months early).

HTC’s News Conference

First, some upcoming news. HTC might not be as big as Apple or Amazon (well, as far as consumer news, at least), but this company is still rearing to go. Just a few weeks ago, HTC notified the press that the company would be holding a press conference in New York on September 19th. In the memo, HTC hinted that there would be some new phone news for HTC fans to look forward to. Just what HTC is up to is anyone’s guess, but it is rather odd that HTC didn’t plan a conference ahead of the Apple conference (as most other manufacturers did).

Apple’s Big News

First, the iPhone 5. This much anticipated phone has finally arrived! Quick specs: the new iPhone 5 is thinner and lighter than the 4S; it has an aluminum backplate; an all-new 4-inch display; retina display; an additional speaker; longer battery life; and a smaller pin connector. All of this news is really intriguing, but what you really want to pay attention to is that smaller pin connector. Why? All of your old iPhone charging devices and docks are no longer applicable, so keep this in mind if you plan on upgrading. Price-wise, the new iPhone 5 will retail for $199 (16 gigabytes), $299 (32 gigabytes) or $399 (64 gigabytes). This new phone will ship at the end of September.

In addition to the iPhone 5, Apple has also announced that iOS 6 will debut on September 19 (available for download), and there’s an all new iTunes available too (more songs, better interface). If you currently have an iPhone 4, 4s, or 3GS you will be able to upgrade to iOS 6 on September 19th as well. As expected, the new iOS 6 will come with Apple’s own version of Maps (no more Google Maps).

In Case You Didn’t Hear

Nokia, Motorola, and Amazon all released new devices earlier this month. Each company held conferences introducing a slew of devices that are now available to the public (or will be in a few weeks). As you can see, there are a lot of options to select from when the holiday season finally rolls around. Or, you can simply snag a few of these top new devices for yourself. If you’re gunning for the new iPhone, make sure to check with your carrier first. You might wind up paying a bundle through your carrier. A better option would be to sell your current iPhone (Apple is buying back some versions) on Ebay or through another site.
