Who says you can’t buy a laptop for under $200? Google and Acer have just teamed up to bring you the Acer C7 Chromebook. The Chromebook is a Chrome-based computer that has been in the works for some time now. In addition to acting and looking just like most laptops on the market, the Chromebook has a few additional secrets in store.
Acer Chromebook C7 Details and Specs
The C7 comes with some details that lower the price of this system, but also keep the C7 in line with competing systems. You’ll find a 320 GB hard drive, Intel Core processor, and 11.6-inch display. With that display, you might find it difficult to type for long periods of time, but this is a good system to choose if you need to get through some homework or just want to browse the web occasionally. The C7 also has Cloud Storage in town, and combines that popular storage type with a platter drive.
The one are where the C7 doesn’t stand up to competitors is its battery size. In order to make this C7 more affordable, Acer had to cut down on battery capacity. The C7 can run continuously for approximately 3.5 hours. Just under four hours isn’t a very long time, so keep this in mind if you want a system that will last for hours on end (this isn’t it). As far as size goes, the C7 is 1-inch thick and weighs just less than three pounds.
Ports Galore: More Than You May Think
Acer and Google didn’t skimp when it comes to ports. The C7 comes with three USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet port (you’ll need this with the C7’s low battery life), and a HDMI and VGA out. You’ll also find an audio input 3.5mm jack, HD camera, and WiFi connectivity.
All around, this laptop has more than enough to keep you occupied for a few hours or to help you through that stack of homework. This is also an ideal laptop to choose if you want a quick backup to your desktop. I’d only caution against the C7 if you spend a lot of time working on your computer, since this one won’t last the night.
Availability and Pricing
You’ve already read that the C7 comes in under $200, but the exact price that Acer has slapped on this system is $199. Clearly, this laptop will be on a lot of holiday lists at that price. Google and Acer will start shipping the laptop tomorrow (November 13th), and it will arrive in time for the holidays.
The laptop will be available through Google Play, Best Buy, and various other retailers. Google has posted some nice photos of the C7 on its website, and Acer has done the same. You can also take a look at the C7 above.
This is a good-looking, relatively light-weight, laptop complete with lots of ports, a wide enough screen, and the right price tag for anyone seeking to save on a new laptop.
