Yesterday, Samsung unveiled the new S 4 at a large event held in NYC. This much-anticipated phone looks a lot like the old Samsung S III, though there are some important upgrades. The S III has sold remarkably well since its release date, and the S 4 will likely do the same. Are you a Samsung Galaxy fan? Take a look.
S 4 Improvements
Kicking off the Samsung Galaxy S 4 improvements are a new IR-blaster, which effectively turns this phone into a television remote; a 2600mAh battery, which is supposed to ensure a longer battery life; and a 1080p super AMOLED screen. You may also receive a 1.9Ghz quad-core processor or 1.5 octal-core processor (depending on where you reside). Samsung has also added 2GB of RAM to the mix.
What really impressed those attending the Samsung event, though, was the phone's new camera. This phone has a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. But, what's really great about the new Galaxy's camera is the many features that come with it. The phone has a total of 12 different camera modes including a dual-camera option.
With the dual-camera option, you can snap a photo using both cameras at the same time. Why? For the sake of combining both photos into one unusual photo, it seems. During the Samsung demonstration, photos take with the new phone were crisp and nice to look at overall.
Software Inclusions
This phone runs on Android 4.2.2. This phone also comes with a "Smart Pause" feature that's somewhat freaky. Your Galaxy S 4 will pause when you stop looking at the screen. That's right, this phone detects your eye movements. Another interesting Galaxy-only feature is the "Group Play" feature, which works if you have friends who also own the Galaxy 4.
Using Group Play, you can listen to music as a group (play the same song in stereo), play games together, and perform other tasks as a group. This phone also comes with a "S Health Feature" that keeps track of what you eat in addition to your sleeping patterns. If you purchase the Samsung "S Band" to go along with your new phone, you can connect to your phone via Bluetooth to monitor your health patterns.
There are a bunch of other Samsung-only features packed into the Galaxy S 4 as well. Really, there are too many features to list, but you can check out all of them on Samsung's main page now. So, when can you get your hands on the new Galaxy?
Release Date Details
Samsung told press yesterday that the Samsung Galaxy S 4 would be available in April. In just a few weeks, the new Galaxy can be yours. The usual carriers in the U.S. will stock the phone (Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile...), but there is no word on pricing just yet. Samsung should be releasing pricing information within the next few weeks.
There are a lot of new features packed into the S 4, but will this smartphone beat the rest? Further, was the S 4 worthy of such a big press conference? I'll let you know when the S 4 officially arrives.
