All About That Sound

What good is any speaker that doesn’t also come with amazing sound? While the Punk isn’t going to replace your home stereo system, it does come with some pretty great sound considering the size and shape of this speaker. Since you can’t compare the Punk to other bigger speakers or sound systems, I’m not going to do that here. I will compare the Punk to speakers in its size class, though, and there the Punk does shine.

The Republic Punk might be small, but it’s a lot louder than other speakers in its size class. So, if you’re looking for a speaker that really makes a splash, this is it. Plus, the Punk is water and shock resistant, which is a good thing considering the attachment aspect of this speaker. Underneath the Punk is a quarter-inch mount that you can use to attach this speaker to your belt loop, bicycle handlebars, and anywhere else that you need some music to accompany you wherever you may go.

The Design

The Republic Punk is square in shape with rounded corners, and it has a 60-foot wireless range, which is actually a lot more range than most Bluetooth speakers the same size. The one drawback to the design of the Punk is that it doesn’t come with a carrying case, so you do have to tote it around in your backpack if you want to bring it places with you (and that’s kind of the point here, so you’ll want to bring it places with you!).

Who It’s For

The Republic Punk was designed as a way for people to listen to tunes while cycling or participating in other sports, but I see this speaker more as a way to listen to your music while you’re at the beach or trying to hang out by the pool. It’s really a handy summertime speaker that will let you stream your music loud enough, but it doesn’t come with any kind of speakerphone capabilities, so you can’t take calls through this device (then again, if you’re at the beach do you really want to take calls?).

This is a great little speaker for someone on your holiday list that wants a fun Bluetooth option. The Punk retails for $70, and you can purchase one of these speakers online. Is this the speaker you want to bring into the boardroom or use to replace your home entertainment system? No; but it’s a good little speaker for summer days and those long and fun nights.
