The smartphone is a great invention. It lets you listen to any kind of music whenever you want to. Most smartphones also come with a set of headphones, but trying to listen to music using those in-box headphones can be a challenge. For real sound, you have to buy a separate pair of headphones. The only problem with this is that great sounding headphones tend to be expensive.

But, there are some excellent headphones on the market that are under $100. I don’t recommend purchasing headphones that are more than $50 if those cans don’t come with some kind of amazing warranty. Then again, if you’re serious about your music, you may not care about warranties – as long as your music sounds great. Behold: five great headphones under $100.

ID America Spark

I prefer earbuds to over-the-ear headphones. Why? These suckers stay in place no matter what you’re doing. In the earbud category, you’ll find a number of options. One of the best options comes from ID America. The ID America Spark headphones retail for $40, have amazing sound, and do not fall out of your ears when you move. These headphones also come with a microphone that works with the iPhone. ID American also offers the Spark earbuds in a number of different colors.

Koss PortaPro

These over-the-ear headphones are ugly. But, they do have excellent sound and come with a lifetime warranty. Many reviewers claim that the Koss headphones are also the best that you can buy, so that’s something to consider. These headphones also fold up for portability ease. Koss’ PortaPro headphones retail for $40.

MEElectronics A151

For $50, you can get your hands on the MEElectronics earbuds. These buds sit inside the ear nicely, aren’t a design embarrassment, and come with a nice carrying case. It’s really hard to say anything bad about these headphones.

NuForce NE770X

While I’m not crazy about the casing that covers these earbuds (it makes the earbuds look inexpensive), NuForce’s NE770X earbuds are lightweight and have great sound. These earbuds are also inexpensive at just $34. Note that there is no microphone attached to this option, so you won’t be able to make calls while running or workout out (maybe that’s not a bad thing?).

Panasonic Ergo Fit

I just love the way that these earbuds look. Bright, colorful, great sound, lightweight, and solidly built, the Panasonic Ergo Fit earbuds are my personal favorite. You also can’t beat the price of these earbuds: under $10! For that price, you won’t get a lifetime warranty or a microphone, but you can easily replace these headphones!

So, there you have it: great headphones under $100. Actually, all of the headphones on this list are under $50 – that’s hard to beat. Toss those headphones that came with your smartphone, you won’t be needing them.

Instead, choose some headphones that come with top-notch sound, are nicely designed, and are fun to use. If you do want to push that $100 mark, you can check out some of the top sound houses in the land like Bose, Sennheiser, and others that will blow your socks off.
