Camcorders seem to be largely a thing of the past. As camera companies struggle to keep up with smartphone technology, most camcorders go by the wayside. Consumers today tend to choose smartphone over all other devices, since a smartphone can come with both a camera and a camcorder. So, why has Sony gone and created a new camcorder when video cameras are distant history?

For starters, the Sony Bloggie Camcorder isn’t like all the other video cameras on the market. Instead, this video camera can take photos and connect to WiFi. That’s right, the Bloggie (intended for bloggers, of course) is equipped with WiFi capabilities. Not only is the Bloggie the first video camera to have WiFi abilities, but the Bloggie also comes with everything you’d want from a camcorder.

First, the Specs

The Bloggie comes with 12.8-megapixel resolution, a 3-inch touchscreen, 8GB of flash memory, and a built-in lithium ion rechargeable battery that lasts up to 80 minutes. In short, the Bloggie is a nicely built camera that has everything a $300 camera should have.

In addition, the Bloggie comes in a nice titanium-colored shell that’s complete with a built-in USB port, so you can just plug your camera directly into your computer for ease of use.

Sony has built the Bloggie to compete with some of Kodak’s current offerings, and, based upon specs alone, Sony has done a nice job. While most cameras are all about the inside, the Bloggie has more to offer than beauty and brains. The Bloggie is the first camera to have the ability to stream videos lives.

Live Streaming and Sharing

Bloggie users can stream live videos to Sony’s Quik.com. This means that as events happens, blog readers will be able to see what’s happen as it occurs. Not only is this technology innovative, it’s also the first of its kind within the camcorder field. Since the Bloggie has WiFi capabilities, you can simply connect to any WiFi to upload photos to your site, stream live videos, and even share your photos through social media.

Did I mention that you can also send photos directly to your smartphone?

Thanks to a handy Bloggie app, any videos that you take with the Bloggie can be sent to your smartphone. Really, it seems as though there’s nothing that can’t be done with this video camera, and the Bloggie specs certainly beat most video specs coming from any smartphone manufacturer.

If you are in the market for a camcorder that’s a notch above a smartphone (and can connect to WiFi), the Bloggie is worth a closer look. Sure, that $249.99 price tag might be on the high side, but this reviewer is betting that many consumers will gladly pay this price for a video camera that’s as sophisticated as this one is. Sony first debuted the Bloggie at the CES conference in Las Vegas, but the camcorder has already hit the marketplace. Buy your Bloggie from Amazon or find out more about this new video camera on the Sony site.
